OUR CITY COUNCILOR
LIZ BREADON???
Liz Breadon is the newly elected City Council member representing the Allston-Brighton neighborhood. Unlike more than 500 of her Brighton constituents who declared that they "Want affordable housing for ALL" and that "To get it we aim to remove the rich from power to have real, not fake, democracy with no rich and no poor" and who posed for photos holding a sign saying just that (see the photos online here), Liz Breadon refused to pose for a photo with that sign when I asked her.
More recently I spoke with Ms. Breadon and asked her if she was going to hold a press conference and use other means at her disposal to inform the public about how the Mayor is using a deceitful definition of housing in order to proclaim that there's lots of new affordable housing being built, when in fact there is not. Ms. Breadon did not say she would do so; instead she merely said that she spoke about the need for affordable housing all the time. (So does the mayor.)
WHAT SHOULD LIZ BREADON DO?
Liz Breadon should be exposing and denouncing the SHAM definition of "affordable" housing that Mayor Walsh is using.
Liz Breadon should be using press conferences and holding hearings and essentially SHOUTING TO THE RAFTERS about the travesty of Mayor Walsh's deceitful definition of "affordable." She should be out on the streets with a bull horn telling her constituents how Mayor Walsh is building luxury housing and calling it "affordable"!
Liz Breadon should be calling for a MORATORIUM ON ALL LUXURY HOUSING CONSTRUCTION. This moratorium should last until every working class person who lives or works in Boston and who contributes reasonably according to ability has a good home to live in that, when so desired, is also in the same zip code as the person's place of employment.
These are the things that an elected politician would do if he/she REALLY wanted affordable housing for all.

Read about what Ms. Breadon is, or is not, doing to help her constituents stop working class folks from being driven out of Allston-Brighton by the disgustingly high rents that the Mayor says are "affordable." I write about Ms. Breadon and other news that relates to the fight against gentrification in my blog. Here's the first blog post about Ms. Breadon:
